Fanaticon - 2010!
Right-o. Having consumed mass quantities of Bacon and Eggs this morning, I think I'm awake enough to do a full recap of yesterday. Here goes!
Fanaticon! A Comic Convention, here in Asheville NC! Madness, right?
I was asked several months ago to be an exhibitor at Fanaticon, thanks to my paintings that were hanging in Comic Envy. at this point, I had no idea that Asheville was to play home to a Comic/Scifi/General Geekery convention and I absolutely jumped at the chance.
Cue several months of mostly frenzied painting, paired with violent bouts of procrastination.
I had no idea what to expect of Fanaticon. I'd attended a couple of conventions in New Zealand, but never as an exhibitor. I wasn't expecting a huge turnout, I thought perhaps I would sell a couple of paintings, and hand out a few flyers. Boy was I wrong. Here are a few of the high points from the day -
Lastly, to everyone that had a hand in running Fanaticon, you guys are all heroes. From our perspective, things couldn't have gone better. There was no stress, no drama, everything went perfectly. Load In was incredibly well executed, and gave us time to help others. I could not have asked for a better time, for things to have gone better, or a greater day in all. You made a dream come true for me, THANK YOU!!
Today, I am taking the day off from painting. Tomorrow - Galactus!

Here are a few of the high points from the day -
- Selling FIVE Paintings, taking a stack of commissions, and handing out almost 200 flyers for future commissions and murals.
- Each and every painting that was sold went to a home that will love it. My favorites were selling Rorschach to a man intent on giving it to his daughter, and selling Joker and Harley to the same home. How could I separate them?
- Meeting the owner of the second painting I ever did, and seeing how thrilled he was to have it.
- The wonderful, amazing, encouraging feedback from everyone who saw my work. (Including Butch Guice, Thank you!!)
- Having a table just feet away from our comic home, Comic Envy. The trading of pens, barbs, power rings, food, drink, and chatter kept our spirits up throughout a very long day!
- Despite only getting three hours sleep the night before, we were on a total high all day.
- Donuts!
- A renewed love and appreciation for my town. Asheville, you represented the geek in you more than anyone could have expected!!!
- The awesomely talented jeremywinslife.com who had the table next to us!
- EVERYONE in costume! They were phenomenal!
- All of our supporters. To everyone who provided moral (and at times physical) support, Mary's parents who provided food and souvenirs, Darren and T.L. who provided laughs and solidarity. You are all AWESOME!
- And Mary, who was once again, my rock.
